My Happy Dance

I've been dancing in my cubicle!!! Woohooo....! Today was a big day in reference to overcoming some insecurities!! I managed to "fix" some glitches in a presentation that has to be burned to DVD for the entire Doctor and Nursing staff here at work for certification credits, and I had never performed an audio and video recording of any of the presentations and today I successfully recorded the last one by msyelf. Now, I'm off to edit the presentation and burn it to DVD format for approval along with the one that had the glitch in it.

Dance with me!!!

Simple Advice

I really do believe that all of you are at the beginning of a wonderful journey. As you start traveling down that road of life, remember this: There are never enough comfort stops. The places you're going to are never on the map. And once you get that map out, you won't be able to refold it no matter how smart you are.

So forget the map, roll down the windows, and whenever you can, pull over and have a picnic with a pig. And if you can help it, never fly as cargo.

It's Not Easy Being Green

The words say, “It’s not easy being green,” but the song is about knowing who you are. And in it you hear Jim’s message most clearly. He believed that people are good and that they want to do their best and that no matter how or why we might be different from anybody else, we should learn to love who we are and be proud of it.

It’s not that easy bein’ green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves,
When I think it might be nicer being red, or yellow, or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It’s not easy being’ green
It seems you belnd in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over,
‘cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles on the water,
Or stars in the sky

But green is the color of spring
And green can be cool and friendly like
And green can be big like an ocean
Or important like a mountain
Or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be,
It would make you wonder why.
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am green, and it’ll do fine
And I think it’s what I want to be

Remotely Controlled - What Television is Doing to our Brains

*Now before I start, although this is a true story, all names are being withheld to secure the privacy of a particular "wanna be blonde". I am putting out a disclaimer that I am not and will not be held responsible for any "blonde" moments that may occur from this story being revealed! People need to be warned of such addictions!

How television is damaging our lives - and what we can do about it...

The link between watching television and physical and psychological damage is neither a concoction nor an exaggeration. Highly respected medical bodies have voiced clear concerns, and the normally conservative mainstream medical and scientific journals have published worrying associations between television viewing and health.

*In this case, I think it did!!! You know you have a problem when you get up in the morning, and begin your day as usual and amongst all the preperation in gathering your items to head out the door for work, you gather your purse/wallet, keys, briefcase, lunch AND a REMOTE CONTROL for the TV!! When you get to the point that the remote feels so normal in your hands amongst your keys, you need to commit yourself in to and OCD unit "somewhere"!!! Or a HOPE unit for assurance that there is HOPE in your life and that you can let go of that REMOTE Control! That remote is not going to work from your office my friend, especially miles away from your actual television. Unless you have some high powered infrared system going on here that some of us aren't aware of!!

It is said that:

"television 'can negatively affect early brain development".

There is now growing concern that watching television distorts the wiring in the developing brain. The advice now is that children should not start watching television before the age of three. *(What age did you start watching TV?)

"THE PASTOR'S CAT"

Dwight Nelson recently told a true story about the pastor of his church. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc., but the kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten.

And that's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten.

Unfortunately, as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went "boing!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air and out of sight!

The pastor felt terrible! He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. Nobody had spotted the poor little guy, so the pastor prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food ... the woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?"

The woman replied, "You won't believe this," and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the woman finally told her, "Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it."

She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get down on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her!"

Such the life of a cat... :)

The Wisdom of Earthly Life

If Life be drab, instill some variety;
If Life be sad, laugh your troubles away;
If Life be insecure, save up money;
If Life be demanding, do things your way.

If Life be too unkind, just change your aim;
If Life be agony, increase threshold;
If Life be grief-bringing, don’t others blame;
If Life be upsetting, remain just bold.

If Life be dangerous, venture forth less;
If Life be less content, then pray to God;
If Life be treacherous, expect the stress;
If Life be changing tunes, dance in accord.

If Life be revengeful, forgive your foes;
If Life be sans rewards, that’s how it goes!

Weekly Giggle

A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the Branch and wrote "this iz a stikkup. Put all your muny in this bag."

While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the teller's window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to the Wells Fargo Bank.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.After waiting a few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargo teller.

She read it and, surmising from his spelling errors that he wasn't the brightest light in the harbor, told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on a Bank of America deposit slip and that he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargo deposit slip or go back to Bank of America.

Looking somewhat defeated, the man said, "OK" and left. He was arrested a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America.

THE BIKER

When you see us moving past you quickly:

Don't take offense or think we're trying to "show off". Ninety five percent of the time, we're trying to get out of your blind spot or taking ourselves out of a potential dangerous situation that has evolved around us. Distancing ourselves from you does not mean we want to race, but that we're giving ourselves the edge we need at the moment.

When you hear our horn:

Don't take offense or think we're trying to aggravate you. All we're doing is letting you know where we are in relation to you on the road, and we're more than likely aware of your inattentiveness to us while you're talking on a cell phone, eating, reading or involved in some other distracting aspect to your driving. It's important to us, and you, that you know we're there.

When you hear our loud pipes:

Don't become angry and hostile toward us. Yes, some are quite loud, but for some, there's a purpose behind being loud. It's about letting you know we're close by and we're constantly hoping that our investment in this accessory will help save our lives. Our pipes are really not about our ego...it's a pride and personalization to our form of transportation.

When you see us in our clothes:

Don't become fearful of us or think us weird. Our leather jackets, chaps, gloves and boots are the barriers between loosing massive amounts of flesh should something cause us to go down...nothing more, nothing less. Safety gear is paramount to our riding. We wear patches on our jackets, and pins on our vests. These are symbols of pride and honor within our group(s), individuals giving back to those who gave. These things bond us as a brotherhood and sisterhood among bikers. Not that we're better than anyone else, but that we have the same kind of nobility and pride in our accomplishments as you may have in the various aspects of your life. I guess one could say; our patches and pins are the decals and the bumper stickers of our involvement with society and the general public, of which we are very pleased to be a part of in our own little way.

When you see us in a restaurant:

You don't have to shield your child or feel intimidated. We have family, wives, husbands, children and loved ones too, just like you. We smile; we laugh and enjoy the moments we have. We are approachable, and would befriend you, if given the opportunity.

When you see us in a parking lot:

Don't convince yourself that we're there to "get you". More than likely, we just finished a long ride and are taking a break. Or, we may be meeting up with other riders for a charity run for young children, or another very worthy cause. We may just be admiring one another's bikes, sharing our pride with other brothers and sisters, just like you do with your personal vehicle. It's what we do...it's a part of our lives, and we'd be more than welcome to share with you what riding a bike is all about...if you'd only ask.

When you see aggressive riding bikers:

Don't put us all in the same stereotypical category as those whose behavior and actions would cause you to react in disgust and intolerance. Many of us do not agree with this style of riding either, and we know and understand that human nature tends to blend us all together as the "same group". Most of us don't want that title...and don't deserve it.

When you see a group of bikers on the roadways:

Give us the courtesy of sharing the road with you. Please don't "move in" between several bikers in formation. This gets us very excited and nervous, especially when it's done with no due regard for our safety. Provide us with your awareness of the fact that we are much more vulnerable than you. We don't want to challenge you, for all of us are wise enough to know...we'd lose that battle.

When you are turning left or entering a roadway/highway:

Look, then look again...and then one more time. For we can be easily hidden, and appear to be invisible by such things as a telephone pole, another vehicle, bright lights or the glare of the sun...or possibly, the beads hanging from your rearview mirror, among numerous other items that are displayed there. If you see us flashing our lights at you or blowing our horn, we're only trying to ensure that you will see us before tragedy changes both our lives.

When you are behind us:

Please give us the room we need and don't tailgate us. If you hit us, we're going down...HARD! We don't want to play games with you, we just want to enjoy the ride and the fresh air, and experience that which many of you have never lived for. If we accelerate away from you, don't interpret this action as though we want to drag race you. We're only trying to take ourselves out of a bad situation if you insist on being too close.

When, and if, you experience road rage:

Don't take it out on us just because we're smaller than you and more vulnerable. Think about what you're doing and the end result that may become a reality. The consequences of your actions and choices could be very detrimental to our well being, our families, our children and our loved ones. Yes, there are those that can tend to piss you off, however, rage towards them will not solve the issues, but accentuate them. Nine out of ten bikers will do everything they can to take themselves out of that situation without causing you or them harm.

When you have an opportunity to talk to us:

You'll discover, outside any influenced or stereotypical mindset you may have, that we are just as human as you are, just with different interests and toys. Many of us would give you the shirt off our back if it would tend to brighten your day or console you in some way. We're really no different...and we drive cars, trucks and vans too. So, meet us and greet us...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that you'll be met with open arms.

Thank You for attempting to understand !

New Diet

I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my dogs and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog........ Duh!

I was feeling a bit crabby so on impulse, I told her no, I was starting the Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IV's in both arms.

Her eyes about bugged out of her head.

I went on and on with the bogus diet story and she was totally buying it I told her that it was an easy, inexpensive diet and that the way it works is to load your pockets or purse with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The package said the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her. Horrified, she asked if something in the dog food had poisoned me and was that why I ended up in the hospital. I said no.....I'd been sitting in the street licking my butt when a car hit me.

I thought the tall guy was going to have to be carried out the door

Lent Update

Ok, so one hour in to my morning, I was already experiencing a headache. No matter what I tried to do for it, it wasn't working. I still feel a bit fuzzy from the absence of caffeine in my system. I had already started to wean myself from the many cups I was drinking throughout the day at work.

I can only hope that tomorrow is a better day...

Ash Wednesday

I remember growing up, and although we weren't brought up as what some would refer to as "hardcore Catholics", we would attend church on particular holidays and I always remember attending church dressed up in a pretty dress and lace doily covering my head. I also remember the day we would go and have something black placed on our forehead and watching many Catholics walking around with this black mark on their forehead as well. I never really knew what the symbolic meaning behind it was, and still to this. I also remember being told that we had to give up something that we enjoyed, loved, brought us pleasure. Well, since growing up and on my own, I tried to pass on the tradition and religious practice with my kids, but I felt like I was passing something on that even I could not explain to my kids the meaning behind it. I had and have felt like a bad Catholic.

I’m determined to get back on track with my religion… to learn as much as possible, to get back closer to God. I strayed as the Shephard at times loses one of his lambs. I had been lost in the last eight years… I’ve made my way back and was accepted with open arms. So I’m here to learn and pass along to my kids the right information. I don’t have all the answers, but I know I’m on the right track by asking questions and reading to enlighten myself….

So…. What am I giving up for Lent you might ask???

Well….

COFFEE.....

And any, I repeat… “ANY” food that I take comfort in…
Yes, the almighty Gummi Bears, Sour Patch Candies, Chips, anything that I am known to eat for comfort during those stressful times. (PC ought to like this adventure… lol…)

What is the meaning and purpose of Ash Wednesday?

Ash Wednesday is a wake-up call. Ash Wednesday hits us squarely between the eyes, forcing us to face mortality and sinfulness. We hear Scripture readings that are urgent and vivid. We have black ashes rubbed into our foreheads. We recite a Litany of Penitence that takes our breath away, or should. It is a tough day, but take heart! This is one religious day that won’t fall into the clutches of retailers. There aren’t any Hallmark cards celebrating sin and death; no shop windows are decked out with sackcloth and ashes.

We have forty precious days to open ourselves up most particularly to God, to examine ourselves in the presence of one who created us, knows us, and loves us. We have forty days to face ourselves and learn to not be afraid of our sinfulness.

Lent is about mortality and transformation. We begin the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday with the sign of the cross smeared on our foreheads with ashes as the words are spoken over us, "Dust thou art, and to dust thou wilt return." We begin this season of Lent not only reminded of our death, but also marked for death.

There is nothing pretty about dust.…To call someone dust in any other context would be fightin' words. Don't call me dirt. So why do we do this strange thing on this day. Remember, you are nothing but dust. What is this about?

First, this day reminds us of our creation. From Genesis 2, the second creation story in Genesis:
In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,when no plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no oneto till the ground... then the Lord God formed man from the dustof the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life andthe man became a living being. You know, it doesn't matter who you are, others can find fault. If you work hard, people will say you're uptight. If you enjoy life, people will say you're lazy. If you're wealthy, people will think you used and abused others to become rich. If you're poor, people will look down on you, pity you, and assume you are incompetent. It doesn't matter who you are, people can always find fault; they can always find a way to put you down….

The deep truth of Ash Wednesday —all those judgments do not matter…. We are human beings, dust, beloved of God; we—each one of us—are of ultimate worth….We are created for eternity! What is someone's criticism compared to that? We are free, free of others' judgment.… We spend so much energy on things that don't matter: how we look—what people think of us—what we have or what others have— if we will get a promotion—whose sports team is going to win. We spend so much energy on things that don't matter.…

This, of course, is why Lent is a period of self-examination and penance. We need to stop and look at our lives—remember what we are made of, remember where we are going—and let go of all those things that don't really matter, all those things that get in the way of loving God, loving others, and being loved by God and by others.

These graphic pictures of overdose victims are not for shock value, but rather in the hope that you will have a frank discussion with friends and family about respecting moderation, understanding limits, and knowing when to just walk away.

God is with us always...

HolyBibleSketchPad.com

Though we may face trouble and difficulties, sadness and pain, God is still in control, and he is always with us. When trouble rages, we must listen closely to God’s voice. When the agonies of life begin to bear down upon us, God has not moved away from us. We may have moved away from him. We must return to him in faith and call on him for his strength. He wants to bring us his divine comfort. Though things may seem hopeless, no trial is so great that God cannot deliver us, no pain is so great that he cannot bring us comfort, no circumstance is ever without God’s presence. When God promises never to leave us, he means just that.

He is in control.

The LORD bless you
And keep you;
The LORD make his face shine upon you
And be gracious to you;
The LORD turn his face toward you
And give you peace.

To My Loving Son

My oldest son recently turned 26, this is for you son.

I miss you, and love you tremendously. You are growing to be such a wonderful man... I'm very proud of you!
Happy 26th Birthday....

I'll never forget that night in the hospital room, 3 O'clock in the morning, you were sound asleep in your crib... the doctors told me that you would never walk, talk, or be able to live a normal life. At the age of 9 months, my son was diagnosed with West's Syndrome (Infantile Spasms). I was alone and scared for my son, no-one to turn to for comfort, it was just you, me and God in that cold hospital room. I cried so much... but I knew in my heart, that you would be fine, we had family praying for you. For a whole year, I administered shots in to your leg(s) alternating every single day to help with the seizures.

Son... You beat ALL the odds! So much that they had doctor's from New York fly down to Old Hell Paso to see you! You are my miracle son! Take that thought and run with it! You can accomplish anything you want in this life! People giggle at the picture above, but I tell them proudly...

"He Beat All The Odds!"

I sit here in tears... just praising God for you!

As you celebrate your 26th birthday tonight with all your friends and your brother and sister there in Austin... be safe and keep these words in mind...

Crosby Killers Tug Of War Champions 1992

"Believe And You Will Achieve"

It may have been a struggle, but I have faith in you and I can only thank God for such a blessing he bestowed on me. I thank God for you every day. I believe that God has plans for you son! Never give up and never lose faith!! There are so many things I wish I could say that would let you know just how much I love you and how proud I am, but I leave you with these words...

"Always keep your goodness and never lose your love. For then, Son, you'll be rewarded with success in ways you never dreamed of."

"You can be head and shoulders above the crowd. You don't have to be a giant to be strong. Walk tall and be proud. All you have to be... is someone people look up to."

"In the course of time, you will be reminded that hard work gets good results and keeping healthy is essential. Know when to work your mind and let your body relax and know when doing just the opposite makes the most sense. Being able to handle whatever life brings your way is not a matter of coincidence."

"You've already got a good idea of what is expected of you and wished for you. One of the best things you can accomplish on life's pathway is to be a walking example of the golden rule. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking that it is worthless, it is one of the most valuable things you can do."

"You've got so many possibilities ahead! Don't be too quick to limit your choices of what to do, because you might limit your chances of unimagined joys that are waiting just for you."

"You've got a wonderful sense of humor and a good outlook on life. Let those qualities help to see you through when you're deciding where to go and you're not sure what to do."

"You've got a big heart. Keep it filled with happiness. You've got a fascinating mind. Keep finding new ways to grow. Keep yearning. Keep learning. Keep trying. Keep smiling. And keep remembering that a parent's love goes with you... everywhere you go."
