SUCCESS

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent
people and affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest
critics and endure the betrayal of
false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best
in others;
To leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child, a garden
patch or a redeemed social
condition;
To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

Wikipedia in an Educational Atmosphere

The following email was sent out to staff here at school and I found it very interesting, enlightening and relieved how the educational system is continuing to crack down on "improper" websites... just like "MySpace" and improper "TEXT" Image Searches. Even though I know it might come to the point where I won't be able to access my blog during working hours, but I can handle that...

This particular filtering did surprise me at first, but I was glad to hear it after reading the entire email. This makes my job easier and allows me to concentrate on my actual job title. I'm not the web gastapo or police so this type of work time (researching "improper" web access) takes away from my actual work that is more pertinent.

The information below was sent to the Director of Library Services. If you use Wikipedia, please read the information below. Thanks.....have a great weekend!

Just a quick FYI for everyone about www.wikipedia.org which I know many of your teachers and Librarians have used in the past with students.

If you know of teachers or librarians who use this site or plan to use this site, please let them know that it is blocked and will probably remain blocked permanently as the site now contains content (both text and graphics) related to sexual activity that we are required by law to block.
Wikipedia is promoted in many educational circles as both a free forum for input and a good site to use in teaching the validity of information found on the Internet. Unfortunately the change in content, which was picked up by the content filter provider, means this site can no longer be used within the district, and should no longer be promoted as a site for students to use for homework and school assignments.

So Much Beauty

Whenever stress and turmoil start to strangle you, try concentrating on your five senses. Focusing on the physical realities around you - experiencing them through sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch - is a wonderful way to still the racing of your heart.

See the full moon standing strong against a canopy of sparkling stars or a photograph of a brilliant rainbow arching over places you've never been. Hear the rhythm of bubbling water in a fountain or the familiar melodies of your favorite songs. Feel the softness of a newborn baby's face or the smooth cold marble of a finely chiseled sculpture. Smell the clean scent of the forest after a summer's rain or the aroma of freshly baked bread. Taste the sweetness of a juicy strawberry or the lingering richness of a dark chocolate truffle.

The beauty of nature, art, music and literature... there is so much beauty around us, all we need to do is STOP,focus and take it in.

Each day comes bearing its own gifts.
Untie the ribbons.

Are You Sure About That?

Sitting in my Synergistics lab as I was working on a few problems, I ran across the following information and just found it interesting on an FYI basis ... this may not be of interest to anyone, but then again... one never knows.

~~~~~~~~~
It's hard to predict what will happen with technology, but that doesn't stop people from trying.
___________________________________________________________________
1876 - "This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us."
(Western Union Internal Memo)
1895 - "Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible."
(Lord Kelvin, British scientist)
1913 - "Books will soon be obsolete in the schools."
(Thomas A. Edison, American inventor)
1943 - "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."
(Thomas Watson, founder of IBM)
1948 - "Television won't last. It's a flash in the pan."
(Mary Somerville, broadcaster for educational radio)
1949 - "Computers in the future may...perhaps weigh no more than 1.5 tons."
(Popular Mechanics)
1956 - "Space travel is utter bilge."
(Richard Woolley, U.K. Astronomer Royal)
1973 - "Every family in a Creative Society (which will begin around the year 2000) would be able to afford a domestic robot."
(M.W. Thring, in Man, Machines, and Tomorrow)
1977 - "There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home."
(Ken Olson, founder of Digital Equipment Corporation)
Just a Few Facts:
* Some new technologies emerge as a result of war and other social and political upheavals. After the attack on the World Trade Center, several new anti-terror projects were launched. For example, a tiny camera worn by search-and-rescue dogs helped find victims under the tower wreckage.
* We use many products of technology every day and never know the names of the people who invented them. Here are a few unsung heroes:
* L. Lovel - pencil sharpener (1897)
* Satori Kato - instant coffee (1901)
* Mary Anderson - windshield wipers (1903)
* Garrett A. MOrgan - traffic light (1923)
* R. Stanton Avery - self adhesive label (1935)
* Earl John Hilton - credit card (1950)
* Luther Simjian - ATM technology (1960)
"Let me ssee if I've got this right"
After being interviewed by the school administration, the eager
teaching prospect said:
"Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room
with all those kids, and fill their every waking moment with a love
for learning, and I'm supposed to instill a sense of pride in their
ethnicity, modify their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs
of abuse and even censor their T-shirt messages and dress habits.
You want me to wage a war on drugs and sexually transmitted
diseases, check their backpacks for weapons of mass destruction, and
raise their self esteem. You want me to teach them patriotism, good
citizenship, sportsmanship, fair play, how to register to vote, how
to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job.
I am to check their heads for lice, maintain a safe environment,
recognize signs of anti-social behavior, make sure all students pass
the state exams, even those who don't come to school regularly or
complete any of their assignments.
Plus, I am to make sure that all of the students with handicaps get
an equal education regardless of the extent of their mental or
physical handicap. I am to communicate regularly with the parents by
letter, telephone, newsletter and report card.
All of this I am to do with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few
books, a bulletin board, a big smile AND on a starting salary that
qualifies my family for food stamps! You want me to do all of this
and then you tell me...
I CAN'T PRAY?"
REDNECK MAFIA BLOGROLL
After catching up with some reading tonight... I went to close all my windows (IE 7 Beta Version), I had three open, closed them all, went back to open up my on-line training module and now, my browser is stuck on the REDNECK MAFIA BLOGROLL PAGE!
Ok, Bushwack!!! What have you done?
I really don't feel like reformatting, restoring, doing the same thing I do at work, here at home!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I can hear that evil cackle with the evil cry from your mouth: MACS RULE!!!
Do you have some secret hacker/cracker code going when we go to the link??? I'll be so upset if I start viewing the windows errors that I previously posted!!!
Especially one that reads:
ERROR:
You may not go any further until you join the REDNECK MAFIA BLOGROLL pulled together by Bushwack - American and Proud Of It and even after joining the blogroll, WINDOWS will decide when we will release your homepage to your previous setting!
"Pray For The Flag"
Something about a 4 year old screaming "Everyone pray for the Flag today. Please pray for the flag its important. " You just get a warm fuzzy feeling and a feeling that we do have some hope for our future...
Read this over at This That And Frog Hair 2. Drop in and pay a visit...
This Morning DoodleBug, our grand daughter seems to be recovering very
nicely from strep throat. She jumped up a moment ago. And began yelling everyone
pray for the Flag today. Please pray for the flag its important. She has no
reason for us. She is only 4. She says everyone should be praying for the flag
today. Tell everyone a 4 year old wants you to pray for the flag today.
I Am an American
This was written by a twenty-one-year-old college student from Rockaway, New Jersey, Danielle M. Giodano.
I am an American. I am free.
I am an American. I am strong. Like our nation's
foundation, built by our founding fathers over
two hundred years ago, I will not buckle. I will not
be broken. I will endure.
I am an American. I have faith. I have looked into
the eyes of fear, but I am not afraid. I weep
because I am human, not because I am weak. My
beliefs cannot be taken from me. I will never give up
hope.
I am an American. I have a voice. I speak my feelings
freely because I am free to do so. I will voice my
anger because I am angry. I will shout my frustration
because I am confused. I will say my piece. I
cannot be silenced.
I am an American. I am proud. The colors red, white
and blue flow through my veins. Like the torch
that welcomed my ancestors, my sould radiates
freedom and liberty. The flag is my beacon.
Brotherhood and love are what I believe in,
truthand justice are what I stand for.
I am an American. And I am everyone - never just
one. I am everything. I am untied. I am the
businessman on Wall Street, the farmer in
Nebraska, the movie star in Los Angeles. I am the
rolling waves of Miami Beach, the blowing wind of
Chicago, the snow-capped mountains of
Boulder and tthe desert sun of Phoenix. I am not
weakened by cowardly acts of malice; I am
strengthened. I cannot be divded. I will not be
conquered.
I am an American. I will survive. I will stand up and
I will fight and I will defend. I will not sit back and
do nothing when I can do something. I will
not back down. I will overcome. I will prevail.
I am an American. I am free.
Home sick and surfing the net...
Ok, so I stayed home again today, I was sick the night before and just remnants of whatever it was is being allowed to leave my body today. My whole body was hurting, like I had been hit with a MAG truck!! You know the saying (or is it MAC?)... not quite sure what a MAG truck looks like, but I can only imagine with the way I was feeling...
8/26/06 - UPDATE: I stand informed and corrected... Thank you TexasFred!! That's MACK TRUCK!!
My understanding from someone very knowledgable in health is that I'm a "SISSY"!!!! So be it, "I'M A SISSY"!!! I can handle that... lol I know how to pamper myself when I'm sick, and there is no-one else around to do it for me. So who better than mua, to pamper me??? LOL... I can't go to work and expose everyone in the teaching field whatever it might be that I have... Right? lol... work with me here people!
I'm definitely not on my "death bed" as it was so nicely put last night, but none the less, I felt like crap! So I stayed home... I have paid vactions, paid non-duty days, paid personal business days and sick days. Let me tell you what, I'll take it when I can!
Anyway... so, I'm sitting here, having my coffee, ate my breakfast tacos and surfing the net, catching up with some of my reading... and I ran across this... with the following picture posted with it. Now, being a woman the title caught my attention, cleaning and getting rid of "junk", I have such a closet...
How to Spiritually Upgrade Your Closet or Basement, Part I
by Amy Cunningham - Chattering Mind
Chattering Mind is a blog on motherhood, aging, health and healing, yoga, whole foods, spiritual music, meditation, as well as the struggle to manage time and clutter.
Now here I am thinking, I'm going to get a few good tips... to my surprise, this is what was suggested... with the picture of ZZTOP.
"Everyone has a problem area of their home where unused belongings fester for
years."
1. Start by moving your stereo, boom box or iPod charging station closer to
the closet or basement (where your mess is no doubt concentrated).
2. Borrow from neighborhood (or your own) teenagers the raunchiest
rock'n'roll CDs they have. Or go to a used CD places, and buy a heavy metal
album the management might pay you to take away. I recommend something from ZZ Top,
that very scuzzy Texas band of shag-bearded hippies popular in the 1980s. One of their songs employs the telling lyric: "I've got a gal,
she lives on the hill. She won't do it, but her sister will..."
This will really get your cluttered area's attention, and perk it up in preparation for the radical transformation to come.
more here if interested...
Now, I love ZZTOP, went to see them once even, don't own any CD's of theirs, but something I should buy before I pass on to the other side of this world. I just wonder just how well this would work, maybe it's time for me to buy that CD and test this theory out...
Something for the men...
I couldn't resist...
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me
that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else totake care of first: the truck, the car, fishing, always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point.
When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass,busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watchedsilently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone onlya few minutes.
When I came out again I handed her a toothbrush."When you finish cutting the grass," I said, "you might as well sweepthe sidewalk."
The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.
Marriage is a relationship in which one person is always right, and theother is a husband.
A Walk on The Dark Side
It is said that the greatest knowledge of all is the knowledge of self.
This lineage has been understood for hundreds of generations and
thousands of years, but how many of us truly know our selves?
Do you really know who you are, or do you know that part of you
that you show to the World? There are many aspects that make
up one's being. Before there was Light there was Darkness.
Out the darkness the light was manifested, CONSCIOUSNESS!
Once again darkness is an aspect of things unknown or unseen.
Every one of us has a shadow that we hide from the World.
THE KEY TO SELF MASTERY LIES IN ACCEPTANCE OF SELF.
Most of us, because of fear, that we might be judged by others
live in denial of our shadow. The truth is pure and simple, our shadow i.e.
(insecurities, jealously, obsession, compulsion, guilt, regret, and self doubt)
is what makes us whole. Without our shadow selves there is no
measure of good. Facing and embracing your shadow can be a
fascinating and liberating experience.
Bringing the darkness to light is always followed by self mastery,
understanding and transformation. This is known as Emergence!
Emergence is the evolvement of the human spirit to a higher level of
Consciousness.
Ultimately embracing the darkest parts of ourselves leads to acceptance
and self love! To truly love others one must first love self to
understand what it means to love unconditionally!
Unifying the Dark and the Light is the Tao of perfection.
In other words, it is our imperfections that leads us to
the path of perfection and serenity. Take a walk on the
dark side and embrace who you really are. In doing so
you complete yourself, and free your mind of fear
and regret.
Many blessings in Love, Peace, and
Happiness on your fruitful journey to fulfillment.
Big Girls Workout
As much as I've been known to be "improper" at times, this post is not meant to be "improper", yet some of the female bodybuilders and female fitness athletes, tend to dress to show their physique... all pictures were selected carefully.
I was recently asked if I was ready and willing in engaging in a "Big Girl's Workout"...
I responded with a yes (AND a bit of a whimper...), I'm not getting any younger and I realize that I need to start eating and living healthier than I attempt to already. I lost 45 lbs. in the last three years and have been successful in maintaining my weight. After many crash diets, Atkins was the diet that worked for me and even though I have attempted to do some working out and excercising with some weights, I have never been very disciplined and well, as I mentioned, I'm not getting any younger. So as soon as the Doctor releases me, I'll be getting a bit more serious with my determination to eat, sleep and live healthier.
In saying yes, I decided to do some quick research and ran across profiles of women that made me realize, that I was completely and utterly wrong in my perception of all women bodybuilders, fitness athletes, fitness models and health training women being freakishly over muscled.
There are many, many women that really take their bodies seriously when it comes to living healthy. I know that I barely skimmed the surface and there is so much more to read and so many women that have really made a name for themselves in their competitions, but I wasn't out to get information on the competition side to it, just the healthy lifestyle outlook of some of these women. I'm far from knowledgable in this area... there are professionals that make a living in guiding and training people when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.
I was glad that I could be enlightened in this area. I know that I'm far from where these women are in their lives as these women have made weight training a way of day to day living, for both competition and lifestyle.
I'm also far from becoming what these women have accomplished, but I hope to make some good changes in my life when it comes to eating healthier and excercising. I foresee some good changes ahead.
I had problems with uploading images tonight (auuuughhhhh), so I couldn't add the pictures of Tisha Rodrigues and Ava Cowan.
His and Her Diaries
This came across my inbox today and I couldn't help but laugh because PC and I usually end up having interesting conversations in reference to the way women think and the way men think... This hits the nail on the head when it comes to our conversations and proving PC's point.
Yes Mr. Porta's Cat... I wiill agree with you that women DO think differently than men... I plead "guilty"...
lol...
1. HER DIARY
Tonight I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong; he said nothing. I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled & kept driving. I can't explain his behavior. I don't know why he didn't say I love you too. When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched TV He seemed distant and absent. Finally, I decided to go to bed. About 10minutes later he came to bed, and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted & his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.
2. HIS DIARY
I shot the worst round of golf in my life today, but at least I got laid.
The Freedom of Simplicity
A teacher asked her young students to make a list of the seven natural wonders of the world. Most of the children finished their lists quickly and then ran outside to enjoy recess. Only one little girl remained at her desk thinking about what to write. Suddently she smiled, wrote something, handed her paper to her teacher, and skipped happily outside to play with the others. The teacher turned the paper over and read the following:
Seeing
Hearing
Tasting
Touching
Running
Laughing
Loving
Quite simply...who could ask for more?
Love Returned
(It is what it is... take it just for that...)
LOVE RETURNED
He can not own me
I was not made to be
bought or sold
He can not control me
I'm not a puppet on his strings
He can not direct me
my path is not the one he chose
He can no longer hurt me
my strength surpasses his
You can love me
and I will love you in return
You can gently guide me
and I will follow
You can comfort me when I am needy
and I will be gracious
I have the flame of hope in my heart
and I offer you my gifts
if I may ask of you
a hand to hold on to
a shoulder to cry on
loving arms around me
an ear that will listen
and
I will give you
all that I have and
all that I am
and a love so deep
you will never want
for anything again
Sunday Thoughts
I am the first to admit, I'm far from perfect and never claim or have claimed to be a perfect Catholic, never-the-less, in my "moments" of hardship and trials with-in my spirit, I do try to seek answers from the One that I was raised to believe, has the answers to everything....
~~~~
Inner Storms

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

MARK 4:39-40
~~~~
God, I am afraid of the inner storm that brews deep within my soul, too close to the shore of my daily life. The rough waters could destroy all that I care about. Just like Your disciples, I watch You calm the seas, and yet I still do not fully believe that Your power can hold me up or subside the torrents in my spirit.
I reveal my rage to You, Lord, I see You rebuke my wild emotions. And as peace replaces the jagged edge of leftover pain, I believe that You, Lord, will hold me up.
The Fortress of Knowledge
Then you will understand what is right and just and fair -- every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
PROVERBS 2:9-11
Because of my view of life has changed, deepened because of my hurts, I find that I am understanding more about You and the value of life. Awareness does not deepen the wounds in the way I had feared. Understanding does reveal places of hurt that I had not even known existed. But on the heels of understanding, You offer wisdom and knowledge which create a fortress around my heart.
Within that fortress, my heart and spirit have a chance for restoration. You created knowledge to be a part of Your plan for my healing, Lord. No pain can match the wisdom and leading of Your love.
Something About Today
I start out the day with steps that are heavy with
grief. I feel the pressure of life on my shoulders and
begin to cave toward the sidewalk. My countenance is
drawn and expressionless. I see how other people
respond to me and am taken aback by the reflection of
my sadness in their eyes. Then, out of nowhere and
straight from Your hand, a single perfect leaf rushes past
my line of vision. I watch it float, taking its time. It does
not rush to the ground with the weight of burdens.
It is as if I can see Your hand cradling this symbol of
a new season. you let it glide in the sky, and then You
gently guide it to safety. The wind on my back becomes
Your gentle hand, and I know that today is sacred. It is
a day in which my journey is guided to safety by Your
strength and will. I give myself over to this with great relief.
Friendship is Overrated
Only a Mexican wife...
The sick Mexican husband was laying on his death bed.
He had only hours to live when suddenly he smelled tamales.
He dearly loved tamales more than anything else in the world,
especially his querida Chita's tamales.
With every last bit of the energy left in his mind and body,
the terminally ill husband pulled himself out of bed,
across the floor, down the hall, and into the kitchen.
Here, his wife was removing the fresh batch of tamales
from the stove top.
As he reached for one of the freshly made tamales, his wife, Chita,
smacked him in the back of the head with a wooden spoon:
"Leave them alone, pendejo!" "...They're for the funeral!"
