Some Things Make Life Important

Light week, down with some sort of bug, so I am sharing something that made it's way to my email some time back and I saved for a moment such as this.... I think it fits perfect at this exact moment.

Although I didn't grow up in the 50s, my parents were practical parents... I just had to pass this on and share the thought behind the whole story.
~~~~~~
I grew up in the 50s with practical parents. A mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after She cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a Name for it... A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.
Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, dishtowel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress.
Things we keep.It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.
But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.
Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So...while we have it...it's best we love it.....and care for it...and fix it when it's broken.....and heal it when it's sick.
This is true. for marriage.....and old cars.....and children with bad report cards.....and dogs with bad hips.....and aging parents.....and grandparents.
We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Somethings we keep. Like a best friend that moved away, or a classmate we grew up with.
There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special.....and so, we keep them close!
Memorial Day Tribute
"Memorial Day is more than the start of summer. It is a chance to pause and remember the sacrifices -- remember the gallantry and bravery -- remember the fallen."
There are not enough words on my behalf that can give my deepest respect to all the men and women who have served our country and lost their lives doing so...
To those who served and gave their lives to protect us and our freedom, my deepest respect, love and undending devotion.
With that being said, I leave you all with the following tribute that can be found at Beliefnet.com
"Over the past century, more than 35 million men and women answered the call to arms in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and countless unnamed military engagements. More than half a million of them never came home. Some died in battle, others in captivity; all died too soon."
The rest is here:
Memorial Day Remembering Those Who Died in the Nation's Service
Definitely click on the flash movie "Remembering Those Who Died in the Nation's Service.
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
~~Moina Bell Michael
There is a point to ponder in the following statement made by Melanie Morgan in the following posting.
Honor our fallen heroes
Melanie Morgan
"I wonder how many people will take the time to actually pay tribute to the true intention of the holiday: to honor those who have given their lives for the cause of American freedom."
"The barbecues, swim parties and discount sales at the shopping malls continue unabated, but the holiday's true significance seems to have faded for some in this nation. It's sad to see some people finding it too inconvenient or too politically sensitive to paying homage to our nation's greatest heroes."
"Unlike those Americans who dedicate just one weekend to paying tribute to our fallen soldiers, the men and women serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom do not have the opportunity to select just one day or one weekend to serve. They face the threat of attack every second of every day that they are serving overseas
Fridays Gun Range Visit
PC took us out to the range on Friday evening. This is my synopsis of the evening, you can get better details on his page, Friday's Shooting.
I couldn't resist showing the video clip here in my world.
As PC stated, it was my first time shooting the shotgun and the SKS and I did not like the recoil of either gun. I'm sure that PC will get me out there again with both. I was on a high as I watched PC shooting these guns though... there was that adrenaline there that "women" supposedly don't experience. According to some research, only men experience that testosterone and adrenaline ..."They don't know me very well, do they?"
Children, Adults and Technology Humor
Kids love using the Web, and they keep track of their passwords by writing them down. One mom noticed her son's Disney password was "MickeyMinnieGoofyPluto," and asked him why it was so long.
"Because," he explained,
"it has to have at least four characters."
The true way to love in continuous flow with the angels is to adopt the "gratitude attitude." When we are grateful to be alive the world no longer seems like a place of doom; it becomes a beautiful, unfolding landscape of Heaven.
Happy 19th Birthday Dearest Daughter
"Happy Birthday" means much more
Than have a happy day.
Within these words lie lots of things
I never get to say. It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I'm proud of you.
But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of you
on this very special day,
Happy Birthday.
Celebrate the miracle
Of all that makes you YOU.
Count a blessing for each candle
Have your cake and eat it too!
Unwrap this day and savor it
And all the love that's there
Send a dream-wish straight to
Heaven on the wings of prayer
Remember what a blessing you are
Even after this day is gone.
You're a gem, a priceless treasure
Let yourself shine on!
EVERYON NEEDS SOMEONE
People need people and friends need friends,
And we all need love for a full life depends
Not on vast riches or great acclaim,
Not on success or on worldy fame,
But just in knowing that someone cares
And holds us close in their thoughts and prayers--
For only the knowledge that we're understood
Makes everyday living feel WONDERFULLY GOOD,
And we rob ourselves of life's greatest need
When we "lock up our hearts" and fail to heed
The outstretched hand reaching to find
A kinder spirit whose heart and mind
Are lonely and longing to somehow share
Our joys and sorrows and to make us aware
That life's completeness and richness depends
On the things we share with our loved ones and friends.
Do We Have As Much Sense As God Gave a Goose
Next spring when you see geese heading back for the summer, flying along in a "V" formation, you might be interested in knowing what scientists have discovered about why they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
Basic Truth #1: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another. Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.
Basic Truth #2: If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those who are headed the same way we are going. When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point.
Basic Truth #3: It pays to take turns doing hard jobs - with people, or with gesse flying north. The geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Basic Truth #4: We need to be careful what we say when we honk from behind. Finally, when a goose gets sick or wounded and falls out, two geese fall out of formation and follow him down to help and protect him. They stay with him until he is either able to fly or until he is dead, and then they launch out on their own or with another formation to catch up with the group.
Final Truth: if we have the sense God gave a goose, we will stand by each other like that.
THE FOUR FREEDOMS
"In the future days, which we seek to make
secure, we look forward to a world founded
upon four essential human freedoms...
...freedom of speech and expression
everywhere in the world.
...freedom of every person to worship God in
his own way eveywhere in the world.
...freedom from want - which, translated into
world terms, means economic understandings
which will secure to every nation a healthy
peacetime life for its inhabitants -
everywhere in the wold.
...freedom from fear - which, translated into
world terms, means a worldwide reduction of
armaments to such a point and in such a
thorough fashion that no nation will be in a
position to commit an act of physical
aggression against any neighbor anywhere in
the world.
That is no vision of a distant millennium. It is
a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in
our own time and generation..."
~~ Franklin D. Roosevelt
COSMOPOLITAN - A Woman's Best Friend
So... latter part of last week and this week-end, I spent my days in Zimbabwee at the little "hacienda". Nesting OFCOURSE!!! What else would I be doing? Putting in to effect what "little" strategies I have to domesticate Mr. Porta's Cat.
Upon enjoying my little "nesting ritual, I fell upon a COSMOPOLITAN Magazine, and low and behold if I wasn't enlightened with a few things on how to treat my man, things I should and shouldn't do, things I can do to get my man to do things my way, etc., etc., etc... PC was so thrilled and impressed with all the articles we discussed. I know he's just excited. lol... (Sarcasm in place ofcourse).
The guys and men posted in their magazine, look to be probably the age of my sons!!! Can they do something for us "worldly" women? And no, PC, I don't mean, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Family Circle, or Better Homes and Garden or even Southern Living! I'm all for dating the younger men, I mean, PC is younger, I won't say by how much though! lol... Besides, he's catching up, he recently had a bday ;)
Anyway, so getting back to my enlightenment...
For those interested in reading more, please visit their website or better yet, buy June's Issue.
1. Guy Talk vs. Girl Talk
(This is a good article as I was really able to learn something here, just don't tell PC!!!)
The Secret to Really Understanding Each Other
a. Talk Hurdle In The Car -
*Guy Style - He's into peace and quiet and the open road; it's the perfect chance to chillout - in silence - with you.
*Girl Style - You see this as prime, uninterrupted couple time to discuss...stuff.
*How to mesh - Try playing by his rules now and then.
"Your guy relishes times like these: just being with you, in the moment, without the chatter," says Diana Ivy, PhD, coauthor of Genderspeak and professor of communication at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas. "By learning to enjoy that time with him - and relaxing his way occasionally - you build a new kind of closeness.
"But before that can happen, you need to get comfortable with that stillness.
b. Talk Hurdle After a Fight
c. Talk Hurdle First Thing in the A.M.
d. Talk Hurdle On a Date
e. Talk Hurdle When There's a Problem
f. Talk Hurdle At a Party
2. How to Savor Silence -
It doesn't always come easy to us girls, so here are some tips on connecting - quietly - with your man.
a. Don't state (and then restate) the obvious. - Watchin the sun set with your guy doesn't require you to provide a running commentary. Sure, it's beautiful, but sayint o him "Isn't it so beautiful, honey?" really exhausts the point.
b. Stay in the moment - Breath deeply a few times and take a mental snapshot of the setting that surrounds you, instead of trying to express it. If you're in a constant state of chatter, the reality is that you're not really taking it in.
c. Give the guy a chance to speak up - When you want to know what he's thinking, give him some room to say what's on his mind. He's more likely to talk if you're not sharing every thought, because that just annoys him.
3. Learn to Love His Annoying Behavior
(I'd list the annoying traits with the Positive Flip Side to it and How You would benefit, but due to my firewall, I can't access that section, but definitely a reader!!)
This is a good url for those of you who really want to make your man "purr"...
His Moan Zones
http://magazines.ivillage.com/cosmopolitan/men/moan/spc/0,,284399_292049,00.html
Men, (guys) they even have a section of tips for you!!!
"Cosmo for your guy"
What You Do To Bum Her Out
1. Forgetting Stuff
2. Commenting On Her Eating Habits
3. Tuning Her Out
4. Declining to Hang With Her
Interested??? Visit the website.
Let your man know you are reading to better the relationship... lol... He'll love it!!!
It's all part of the nesting!!!
OK... There's that sarcasm again...
BAD DAY
Yesterday was such a pleasant day in Zimbabwee... a very nice and successfull day nesting. Got quite a lot done too. So, today is a day of play, "Girl Play". Going off to meet my girlfriend and do the "Girl Thing". Hang out, talk about men, talk about kids, talk more abut men and laugh and talk about men again.... So, light blogging today, I'll leave you all with a giggle for the day.
A little guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half
an hour when this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, grabs
his drink, and gulps it down in one swig.
The poor little guy starts crying.
“Come on man, I was just giving you a hard time,” says the truck driver
“I’ll buy you another drink.
I just can’t stand to see a man crying.”
“This is the worst day of my life,” says the little guy between sobs.
“I can’t do anything right. I overslept and was late to an important
meeting, so my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot,
I found my car was stolen and I have no
insurance. I grabbed a cab home but, after the cab left, I discovered my
wallet was still in the cab. At home I found my wife in bed with the gardener.
So I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my miserable life.
Then you show up and drink the damn poison.
We Cannot Merely Pray
I ran across this in some old literature from when I was very involved with my local PTA, I don't know much about this man, but I do agree with his words here...
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end war;
For we know that You have made the world in a way
That man must find his own path to peace
Within himself and with his neighbor.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end starvation;
For you have already given us the resources
With which to feed the entire world
If we could only use them wisely.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God,
To root out prejudice,
For You have already given us eyes
With which to see the good in all men
If we would only use them rightly.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end despair,
For You have already given us the power
To clear away slums and to give hope
If we would only use our power justly.
We cannot merely pray to you, O God, to end disease,
For you have already given us great minds with which
To search out cures and healing,
If we could only use them consructively.
Therefor we pray to You instead, O God,
For strength, determination, and willpower,
To do instead of just to pray,
To become instead of merely to wish.
Nesting Season Underway
I guess it's just inevitable! It is all around us, no matter where you look! Nesting Season is also underway in Zimbabee, aside from Florida beaches, the rest of this week and week-end.
I can only say that one needs to just sit back with a good cup of coffee and enjoy the view of the "Sea Turtle Nesting Season Underway in Florida", to the "Ladies,
building their nests once again."
"Ladies,
Feel that chill in the air? It's time to build our nests once again.
"
It's quite a site to behold, all of it really. "Man" needs to give nesting sea turtles and ladies, "space and, in homage to Rodney Dangerfield, "respect."
It's really quite simple men...for your most desired need to understand women... I leave you with the following:
Nesting Instinct
"Around the fifth month of pregnancy, the "nesting" instinct can set in. This is an uncontrollable urge to clean one's house brought on by a desire to prepare a nest for the new baby, to tie up loose ends of old projects and to organize your world."
This concludes this section of your education for the day!
Heads up PC!!! :)
Do you really think it is possible....? lol...
But the flower is gorgeous... click on the title of the post to see the actual flower.
Maybe his
thoughts when positioning me by the sign... was along the beauty of the flower, NOT so much the word "Virgin"!
Todays Spiritual Guidance
Intimacy means that we're safe enough to reveal the truth about ourselves in all its creative chaos. If a space is created in which two people are totally free to reveal their walls, then those walls, in time, will come down.
Pencil in Some Carefree Timelessness
By Matthew Kelly
Think back to when your primary relationship began. You probably spent a lot of time together, and when you weren't together you probably spent a lot of time thinking about the next time you would be together. Was there spontaneity and carefree timelessness in your relationship at the beginning? How much energy did you put into trying to please each other?
BROKEN DREAMS
As children bring their broken toys
with tears for us to mend,
I brought my broken dreams to God
because He was my friend.
But then, instead of leaving Him
in peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help
with ways that were my own.
At last I snatched them back and cried,
"How could you be so slow?"
"My child," he said, "What could I do?
You never did let go."
Isn't Your Bag Heavy Enough?
A nice visit to A Flutterby Day Journey has me pondering what I have always tried to live by... I love the idea of walking lighter in my remaing days that God is giving me. Thank you Flutterby... for the gentle reminder of living lighter. Click on the title to read more...if you so wish.
So the next time you decide you can't forgive someone, ask yourself... isn't your bag heavy enough?
LET GO OF THE PAST
You need to give that bitterness, resentment, and other contaminants to God. Forgiveness is the key to being free from toxic bitterness. Forgive the people who hurt you. Forgive the boss who did you wrong. Forgive the friend who betrayed you. Forgive the parent who mistreated you when you were younger. Get rid of all that poison. Don’t let the root of bitterness grow deeper and continue to contaminate your life.
I LOVED YOU ENOUGH
Some day when my children are old enough to undersand the logic that motivates a mother, I will tell them:
I loved you enough to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home. (And still do at your ages)
I loved you enough to insist that you save your money and buy a bike for yourself even though we could afford to buy one for you.
I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.
I loved you enough to make you take a Milky Way back to the drugstore (with a bit out of it) and tell the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it."
I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that would have taken me 15 minutes.
I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that thier parents aren't perfect.
I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.
But most of all, I loved you enough to say "no" when I knew you would hate me for it.
Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won something too.
The Love Of A Child
The week started out to be pretty bad
And things were getting wild.
Just when I noticed I was getting mad,
I found the love of a child.
The weather was ugly; the day seemed a waste.
Spring had no hopes to be mild.
Just when I thought it was all I could face,
I found the love of a child.
I felt kind of sick, but I had to go on.
My work was starting to pile.
Just when I thought the world was so wrong,
I found the love of a child.
The week finally ended and I thought I would, too.
I felt I had been on tiral.
Just when I wondered just what I would do,
I found the love of a child.
~~ Lana Schooler
I have to say that sometimes us mothers can be pretty harsh to our kids... as you can see by two of the pictures below. My kids cringe when they see these pictures, while smiling with warm memories at the same time. They still love me... I have found the love of three children...and I carry on.
Happy Mother's Day
This is a bit early, but, since my oldest son gave me my present early since he was leaving out of state for work and my other son took me out for my Mother's Day today because he works on Sunday, and well, my daughter has already started wishing me a Happy Mother's Day since she is in Utah...here I am.
Anyway, this goes out to all the "Moms", "Mommies", "Madre's", "Mamacitas" and the soon to be...
My love to you all on this wonderful day and every day as a mother.
There is no love that can be measured as that of a mother!
~~~~~

Before I was a Mom I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Spit on. Chewed on Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night..

Before I was a Mom

I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests. Or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know th at something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

~~~~
And of all the love in the world, my deepest and truest and most fullfilling love goes to and comes to me from my three beautiful children!
You have made my life very fullfulling at it's very lowest and at it's best.
You are and always will be my greatest treasures!
You bring me many heartfelt smiles.
wearable technology showcase
I couldn't help but giggle as I read the post over at Feisty Republican Whore, Girls in stunning shoes and while perusing the blog, I ran across the posted information on another technology gadget. Now, being in the technology field, I'm all for advancement in technology...but what I don't get is the woman in a two piece bikini showing off the Spectra Digital Night Vision device. I can see it going off better in a camouflaged outfit! A more Casual look, like mine in the previous post!!! LOL!!!
If I was wearing an outfit like this at night, I'd also want to have the Night Vision Capabilities to see who's coming at me from all directions! Now Who The Hell, would be wearing something like this at night???!!! Tell me, I know our guys and gals in combat won't be!!!
Spectra Digital Night Vision Plus HUD: Never be left in the dark again. In low or even no light...the spectra is the ultimate personal night vision device *(normally) worn by security and defense workers.
* So tell me why is a model, in a two piece bikini wearing it... for the sales promotion? Seems like we are still working with the thought of "guys thinking with the little head than the big head?"
Relationship Goals and Nesting
There comes a time in a woman's life at some point in her existence that someone she comes to meet will work their charm and their ways to get a bit of them etched in your life...
Mine has come to be... You all might have read a bit of some relationship goals met on PC's part... well here is what has transformed in the last four months... The evolution of Sugar Cat... lol... The "before" still exists...The "after" is good and yet...More viewable these days.
Casual BEFORE:
Casual AFTER:
It's been a nice transition... And in the midst of the transition of PC meeting his relationship goals, I was able to accomplish a bit more "nesting" this last week-end...
I rearranged his entire closet! Everything is now hanging color coded and by type of attire, dress clothes, pants, colored t-shirts grouped together, sleeveless shirts grouped together (by color of course)...
You men gotta love us women!! Without us, life wouldn't be as interesting!
