Saturday Musings...

Headed out to a blood drive...will be busy the rest of the day. So here's my blog for the day.

A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left.

"Amazing!" he thought as he flew down I-75, pushing the pedal to the metal even more. Looking in his rearview mirror, he saw the highway patrol behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring.

"I can get away from him. No problem!" thought the elderly nutcase as he floored it to 100 mph, then 110 mph, then 120 mph. Suddenly, he thought, "What on earth am I doing? I'm too old for this nonsense", pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the Trooper to catch up with him.

Pulling in behind him, the Trooper walked up to the driver's side of the Corvette, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."

The man, looking very seriously at the Trooper, said, "Years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."

"Have a good day, sir," said the Trooper.

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Twenty-one penguins were rescued on a hot east Texas highway on Tuesday after a truck carrying the wildlife to a temporary home south of Houston overturned, said a state trooper.

Pictured above is a rockhopper penguin not a gentoo, which was the type of penguin loosed in Texas. The Rockhopper has been chosen as the official Penguin of Irony™® because among its distinguishing characteristics is “a slightly crazed look in its eyes.”

Best Police Department

In an effort to determine the top crime fighting agency in the country, the President narrowed the field to three finalists,the CIA, the FBI, and the Police Dept of a major city (pick one). The three remaining contenders were given the task of catching a rabbit which was released into the forest.

The CIA went into the forest. They placed animal informants throughout.They questioned all plant and mineral witnesses.After three months of extensive investigation they concluded that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI went into the forest. After two weeks without a capture, they burned the forest killing everything in it, including the rabbit. They made no apologies.The rabbit deserved it.

The City PD went into the forest. They came out two hours later with a badly beaten bear. The bear was yelling " Okay, Okay, I'm a rabbit, I'm a rabbit".

How To Avoid The Flu Shot

Eat right!
Make sure you get your daily dose of
fruits and veggies.

Take your vitamins and bump up your vitamin C.

Get plenty of exercise because
exercise helps build your immune system.

Walk for at least an hour a day,
go for a swim,take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.

Wash your hands often.
If you can't wash them,
keep a bottle of antibacterial stuff around.

Get lots of fresh air.
Open doors & windows whenever possible.

Try to eliminate as much stressfrom your life as you can.
Get plenty of rest.

OR

Take the doctor's approach.
Think about it...
When you go for a shot,
what do they do first?
They Clean your arm with alcohol...
Why?
Because Alcohol KILLS GERMS.
So......
I walk to the liquor store. (exercise)
I put lime in my Corona...(fruit)
Celery in my Bloody Mary (veggies)
Drink outdoors on the bar patio..(fresh air)
Tell jokes, laugh....(eliminate stress)
Then pass out. (rest)
The way I see it...

If you keep your alcohol levels up,
flu germs can't get you!

My grandmother always said,
"A shot in the glass is better than one in the ass!"

Credit Where Credit Is Due...

This post is in reference to the article that Porta's Cat posted back on Sept 16, There Is A Difference....

I read his post back then and was very touched and overwhelmed with his thoughts and words and most of all, his confidence in me when it comes to handling guns.

A bit of history on me and guns…

For someone that had a tremendous fear of guns, he has definitely brought me a long way from that scared girl back in High School. I was only 16/17 and here I was, standing in the middle of the front yard, watching a young boy die from a stray bullet (not knowing at the time, that is what was causing the convulsions) and watching his brother watch with such fear for his brother’s life. The age of the boy is vague, but I remember he was so young, not even 10. I remember picking him up as he laid on the front lawn in convulsions and carrying him in to the house where we learned his condition. It was New Year’s Eve, midnight, and his brother came running to the door, where I was babysitting my niece and nephew, banging on the door. Needless to say, although I didn’t want to answer the door, I could hear his screams of fear, “Please help, something is wrong with my brother!” When we got him in to the house and laid him on the floor, my brothers shirt was covered in blood where the boy’s head rested on it. We turned to look at the boy and there was blood all over. I was in fear at that moment, scared for this small defenseless boy that all he wanted, was to watch the fireworks with his brother… That night will stay etched in my memory forever. The boy didn’t live, the parent’s… that was their first night out to celebrate New Year’s Eve alone without the kids. Very loving and protective parents, New Year’s Eve would never be the same for this family, because of that night, they lost a son and a brother. Investigations were done and it was learned that there were some of El Paso’s police officers (off-duty) one to two streets down, that were firing their guns in to the air, celebrating NYE. Needless to say, they never did say if it was one of their guns or not…they were placed on suspension WITH pay until the investigations were finished. The bullet hit the boy behind the ear. I still don’t know if they found the owner of that stray bullet. After that night, I made a silent promise to myself, I would never, ever have a gun in my home or let alone, handle one.

I wanted to thank Porta’s Cat again for his confidence in me and all the time he takes to teach me on how to handle a gun, for taking me to the range so that I can keep my gunmanship up to par, for sharing the knowledge of respecting the power that a gun has. I wouldn't be who I am now in reference to the gun world if it weren't for Porta's Cat! Yes, you have to have a willing "student" so to say, and I am very willing to learn all that I can. I have a lot of respect for all guns and most of all for everyone that strives to share their knowledge in positive ways. I’m far from the gun enthusiast or the gun hobbyist but in Porta Cat’s words:

“Yeah, we get kind of silly around here sometimes. And we don't often make political rants, or discuss the intricacies and nuances and fine points of this that and the other. But if you can't find us one Friday evening or Saturday afternoon, maybe you ought go look and see who is at the range....”

I also wanted to thank those who posted comments and left such supportive words. The words are definitely appreciated and taken to heart.

P.S.
Being a typical woman, I’m still contemplating a good fashion statement for the gun range without distracting those around me… The vision of camouflage pants or shorts, Camouflage Madonna bra and a small camouflage half jacket with my hair pulled up and a camouflage cap is out of the question huh? Trying not to be noticed, hence the camouflage print!!!! Posted by Picasa

The Window To The Soul

The say that animals look for man's intentions right into his eyes. So, it leaves me to think that we as human beings are not far from following that same instinct...

-------------------

A man
Full of mystery
Yet an open book

I gaze in to his eyes
And see the world

They say that
They eyes are the window
To the Soul

I want to know his soul
I want to breathe and feel his soul

Next to me
Within me
About me

Inside me…

The Ex

A man and his wife are dining at a table in a plush restaurant,and the husband keeps staring at a drunken lady swigging her gin as she sits alone at a nearby table.

The wife asks, "Do you know her?"Yes," sighs the husband, "She's my ex-wife. She took to drinking right after we divorced seven years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since."

"My God!" says the wife, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?

A bit late, had it posted this am, but blogger was acting up and posted it twice. Came home to remove the dupliate one and it wasn't showing it... deleted the whole thing instead to start from scratch.

Unfortunately I didn't have the Maxine pic I had this am, but never the less, here is a Maxine none-the-less.

Biker Momma

A little old lady had always wanted to join a local biker club, so one day she goes up and knocks on the door. A big, hairy bearded biker with tattoos all over his arms answers.

She proclaims, "I want to join your club."

The guy was amused, but says she needs to meet certain biker requirements in order to join. The biker asks; "Do you have a motorcycle?
The little old lady replies, "Yep...my bike's parked over there", and > points to a flamed black Harley chopper in the driveway.

The biker asks, "Do you drink?"
The little old lady replies, "Yep...drink like a fish. I'll drink any man in your club under the table."

The biker asks, "Do you smoke?"
The little old lady replies, "Yep...smoke like a chimney. At least 4 packs of cigarettes and three joints a day and a couple of cigars in the evening, while I'm shooting pool."

The biker is very impressed and asks, "Last question, have you ever been picked up by the fuzz?"

The little old lady thinks for a minute and said, "Nope ... but I've been swung around by my nipples a few times."

Is your town haunted!!???

It seems that my hometown (El Paso, TX) is extremely haunted!!! Go figure! No-wonder I don't go back home but once a year!!! There are too many to list, so stop in and read up on El Paso, TX. I have to add, there are some stories I've heard from my mom... always scares the hell out of me, but it's always cool to hear the stories.
In fact the one that she shares with us is about hearing a cat pouncing around in the bedroom on the furniture and within a chest that was locked and within the walls. I remember her telling us aobut how my grandfather appeared before her when I was just a baby. Stories of my dad, being seen fixing things around my sisters house (where mother lives now). I have an experience where I saw my dad walking from the front of the house toward the back to my mom's room and sisters room... I will never forget that evening!!!
They even had a story (two actually) about the High School that my boys attended within the school district that I work at. I had to have some fun with it and proceeded to email the technicians in the district and at the school to ask if anyone was willing to brave a night at the gazebo... The emails that tranpired back and forth from that were hilarious as hell too! And to think too that there are stories tied to the stretch of street that I live on too...
League City
League City - Clear Creek High School- On several occasions, people have witnessed spectral forms sitting in a small gazebo outside the band hall and auditorium. The gazebo was set there along with a stone commemorating students that have died while attending school there.

League City - Nasa Road 1 - this part of Nasa Road 1 was completely within the last couple of years, and runs through two sets of neighborhoods. On the new road, witnesses have seen several shadow forms crouching at the edge of the trees, seen more shadows crossing the road and felt presences watching me. At the end of Nasa Road 1, there is a neighborhood that has been there for several years. Within that neighborhood, first is a large tree that radiates a dark presence. There is house next to it that is almost constantly lit, but that tree remains dark. A cemetery near by is reported to have demonic looking creatures roaming it.

Seabrook

Seabrook - Toddville Road - the former Toddville Mansion, which has recently been torn down, the property turned into apartments or condos. Reports of a strange creature roaming the grounds, noises, feelings of being watched, shadowy figures.

THE LIST MANSION ON TODVILLE ROAD

Located in Seabrook: Synopsis: The structure that used to stand at 3300 Todville Road, at the corner of East Meyer, was a foreboding site long before its treacherous history unfolded. The old mansion, built in the 1970s by William Gerald List, was torn down in 1996. Such is the twisted history that items and fixtures from the mansion were sold, either for practical applications or to stand as mementos to Seabrook's dark past.
In order to understand the location's dark side, you have to have a quick lesson on "List" history. William List was a millionaire designer who made a fortune building and selling drill pipe trailers during the Houston oil boom of the 70s. List's eccentricities went beyond his design extremes (34,000 square foot house with steel framing, more bathrooms than bedrooms, and a 'hangar-like' appearance). List had a penchant for young men that he seduced with money and drugs from the dark corners of the Montrose District of Houston.
On the evening of October 17th, 1984, List's deviant appetite got the best of him. Nineteen year old Elbert Homan shot List from a suspended catwalk overlooking the indoor atrium of the massive home. Accomplices Timothy Foran, 19, Jeffrey Statton, 22, and an unnamed 16 year old minor, kept watch and drew List's attention, setting Homan up for the kill. The four then ransacked the house and covered the walls in verbal attacks and accusations against List. The young men were quickly caught and revealed testimony of rape, molestation, brutality, drugs, and blackmail. Some even believe that previous male guests of List may have met a gruesome fate that now lies somewhere in the murky depths of Galveston Bay.
Today, you can go north on Todville Road and take a right onto Villa Drive, into the Villa By The Sea subdivision. The cobblestone circle drive in the center of the subdivision is the only remnant of the dark palace. However, you can get rid of the building but not the spirits. I bet the new residents weren’t told about the history here when they moved in. There are many well-documented reports of a strange creature roaming the grounds, weird unexplained noises in the dead of the night, a creepy feeling of being watched and mystical shadowy figures. Is Mr. List still looming around looking for his next victim? I rather not stand around and see.

This is pretty neat. JUST CLICK ON YOUR STATE!!!

The Chicana and the Genie

I love my culture... they give me reason to laugh on more days than they realize!!!

A Chicana was walking along the bank of the Rio Grande when she stumbled upon an old empty cerveza bottle. She picked it up, rubbed it and a Genie appeared.

The Genie told her he would grant her ONE weesh. She said to theGenie, "I heard from my Prima that I could get THREE weeshes if I ever found a Genie". The Genie said, "Oh no! Sorry Esa. THREE- weesh Genies are a story-tale myth. I'm a ONE-weesh Genie. Uno, no mas! So, que tu quieres?"

The lady didn't hestitate. She said, "I want peace in the Middle East. See this map? I want these countries to stop fighting with eash other and I want all the Arabs, you know, the vatos that have the toallas on their heads, to love Jews and Americanos. It will bring world peace and harmony."

The Genie looked at the map and exclaimed, "Orale! BE REASONABLE! These countries have been at war for thousands of years. I'm out of shape after being in that botella for five hundred years. Oye, I'm good, but NOT THAT GOOD!!! I don't think it can be done, please make another weesh!"

The lady thought for a minute and said, "Well, I've never bean able to find the right hombre. I want a Chicano boyfriend. Ju know, one that DOESN'T DRINK ALCOHOL, is nice y funny, likes to Cumbia & Ranchera,and helps con cleaning la casa. One that doesn't have a big ol' panza, I want him to be great in bed and gets along con mi familia and is FAITHFUL and doesn't throw chingasos at me. Yes, that's what I weeshf or, a good Chicano man!"

The Genie let out a long sigh, shook his cabeza and said, "Chingada Vieja! Let me see that pinche map again."

Revisiting Flatonia - Repost from January 17, 2006 -

Life and Love

Life and Love Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, "This is the real me," and when you have found that attitude, follow it.
William James

Revisiting Flatonia

Sonya's Texas Journal

It may not have been the 100 acres on Flatonia, but it was a wonderful feeling to live this little vision that I had about a month ago...

““I still have in mind the morning of making coffee by the window staring out watching the leaves in the trees swaying back and forth gently with the wind. And you standing close by behind me, ever so close, just holding me.... "

I got to experience this interlude in January, it wasn't early in the morning, but late in to the night in fact. I was standing by the kitchen window, but the coffee being made, was actually for myself... But...the one thing that was perfect to my vision was "you standing close by behind me, ever so close, just holding me.... "

I am very content...

Update:
Months have gone by since my “little” interlude and here I find myself, nine months later, still reveling in my interlude.

Thank “you” for my interludes and my dreams and vision of “Flatonia”.

Inner Stirrings...

Calling Your Name
Author: Aylissa Cair

There’s an ache,
I can’t control..
in a place, I can’t name.,
all I know.. is it calls for you.

It’s like a song,
an unending melody,
it whispers, and screams,
and calls your name.

I don’t know why,
and I can’t reason it away,
it longs, and needs,
and calls your name.

It echoes through my heart,
and tears at my soul,
it has no release,
and I can’t let it go.

It calls your name.

Busy morning... human interest is on mind

I took the day off as I have quite a few things on my own "honey do list" to get things done today. So in thinking of all that I have to do in my day, the only thing on my mind is human interest, caring for one another, stopping to help others in the midst of our busy days... with that being said, I'll leave you all with the following human interest story that just tugged at my heart strings hard. Please note that one of the pictures is heart wrenching and can really tug at your heart strings...

There seems to be so many people in our lives that are so willing to give a helping hand, I have to say that these kind of people is what I live my life to be like!!!

As I walked down the busy sidewalk, knowing I was late for an important interview, my eye fell upon one of those unfortunate, homeless vagabonds that are found in every city these days. Wearing what can only be describes as rags, carrying every worldly possession in two plastic bags; my heart was touched by this person’s condition. Some people turned to stare. Others quickly looked away as if the sight would somehow contaminate them. Recalling some long ago Sunday school admonition to "care for the sick, feed the hungry and clothe the naked," I was moved by some powerful inner urge to reach out to this unfortunate person.

Yes, where some people saw only rags, I saw a hidden beauty.

A small voice inside my head called out,
"Reach out,
reach out!"

So I did..........

(Doesn't this picture above just tear your heart?? It did mine)

I get out of the hospital in about 3 months. It would be nice to get a card or maybe a visitor.

Can we find it in our hearts to stop in and visit this brave soul?

~~~ On a side note:
Ok, we've had our laugh, giggle and even a human interest story for the day, now it's time to get to work on our honey do's and work load!!!
Beer contains female hormones
This is some serious stuff....
Last month, National University of Lesotho scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. And suggested that men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption. The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women. To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each, within a 1 hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects:
1) Argued over nothing.
2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong.
3) Gained weight.
4) Talked excessively without making sense.
5) Became overly emotional.
6) Couldn't drive.
7) Failed to think rationally.
8) Had to sit down while urinating.
No further testing was considered necessary.
Rainy Days Monday
So, I head out of Zimbabwee early, 6:15 am, to get an early start to work, (something told me not to dawdle in my man’s arms this morning). Glad I listened to my inner voice, it’s raining here in Zimbabwee and my loving man, wishes me a safe drive to work, I can only imagine that I’d still be stuck in traffic on 59 as I type this out.
An 18 wheeler lost it’s load of lumber and traffic was backed up from I-10 to 610 on 59, possibly even a bit further back. I’ve gotten use to the bottle-neck at 610 and 59 that I didn’t pay much attention to that part of my drive. I did pay enough attention to the signs stating that “All left lanes closed due to major accident at I-10”. I just never imagined that I’d be three hours in traffic. No big deal at the time, I thought…. “NOT”!
I was late to work by an hour and 15 minutes. So… what did I do, while sitting in traffic, well, let me see… I probably bored my loving man with about three text messages, did my make-up (Yes, I did my make-up in the car people, I was at a freakin’ standstill!!! I couldn’t find a decent thing on the radio, so I fiddled around from station to station, KHMX MIX 96.5, Country Classics KTHT 97.1, KRBE 104.1 (a waste of my time as Atom Smasher and Maria Todd were fired and the hysterics are gone), KSBJ 89.3, 93.Q Country, KODA Sunny 99.1. Not a single thing that was worth listening to. So, I called up my best friend, chatted with her for about 20 minutes or so… ate my breakfast; Yogurt, String Cheese, a few grapes and of course my coffee (yea, different huh?).
Aside from that, I sat there in traffic for three hours total, listening to the inner voices, contemplating life, reminiscing on my week-end with my favorite man and the kids... yadda, yadda, yadda…. Those inner voices came close to sounding like the Charlie Brown cartoons with the teacher and parents talking loud in my mind - WAUGH, WAUGH-WAUGH, WAUGH, WAUGH….
So, now it’s work time, I have to agree with PC, what I would give to be at home on a “Rainy Day Monday”…
Rainy Days And Mondays Lyrics
Artist(Band):Carpenters
Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me.
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
This is definitely couch weather, snuggle up on the couch with a good "CLASSIC" movie!!! Any movie suggestions for my evening??? Posted by Picasa
Sunday Thoughts...
Creation
When God had made the earth and sky,
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
and all the birds and bees.
And when His work was finished,
not one was quite the same,
He said: I'll walk this earth of mine
and give each one a name.
And so He travelled land and sea
and everywhere He went
a little creature followed Him,
until its strenght was spent.
When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said:
Dear Lord, there's not one left for me!
The Father smiled and softly said:
I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name
back to front and called you,
Dog my friend.
Vietnam veterans remember one who didn't come home - North County Times
Ramona residents Nathalie and Wally Green look on as they are presented a POW-MIA flag by the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club, that has the name of their son, Tom Green, on it. Green was lost in a helicopter crash in the Vietnam War
in October 1971.
DON BOOMER Staff Photographer
A San Diego-based motorcycle club remembered the one who never made it back, Pfc. Thomas Green. He was lost over the waters of South Vietnam when the CH-47 helicopter he was aboard went down.
Gone, but never forgotten. That was the message delivered to the couple by more than three dozen members of the group known as the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club/Legacy Vets. Flag-bearing club members paraded down Main Street until the procession ended at the Greens' home. Club members gathered in front of the house and presented a black POW-MIA flag to the couple, after members thanked them for their sacrifice. (More here)
About 50 motorcycle riders from several clubs, led by the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club, make the way east on Main Street in Ramona carrying a POW/MIA flag to the home of Wally and Nathalie Green, who lost their son in a helicopter crash in the Vietnam War in October, 1971.
The Love of my Useless Cat
Well, as promised, here are some pictures of my most wonderful "Useless". Showing off his creativity, he forgot to light the candles to go along with the rose petals strewn across my floor, but the intentions were well meant.
He's so proud!
Here Useless is wanting to show me first hand, just how he managed to create his own claw pattern on the paper towels... which by the way, in the past, he found that the bathroom paper rolls real cool when he claws at that too...
He got that creative side from his momma... "mua"... lol...
I just don't see a bad thought in this cat... do you?
(He was exhausted too...)
P.S.
Patrick, I think you might be on to something! I'm starting to scheme a way of teaching Useless to do housework!!
(I have to admit, great comment on my housework blog!! I just couldn't respond to it here at work...)
Serenity....
My thoughts since 9/11 have been directed towards inner peace, and peace within our world. Looking for insightful passages and anything that can give me something valid to find exactly what I'm looking for, I found myself focusing on the following... Ofcourse we all have our own ways of finding inner peace, but this is mine.
Many things happen in life that aren't fair - illness, injury, death, for example. Accepting those situations means focusing our strength and energy on releasing ourselves to God and letting him see us through them rather than letting anger, bitterness, sadness, and self-pity hold us in their grasp.
The Center of Serenity
Please just look around you and see how much heartbreak there is. It does not have to be that way... We notice the grumpy people; we notice the helpless and fragile ones. Hear their silent plight. Listen and feel their pain from the deep recesses of your heart. Ask your soul what it is that you can do to change this. When we focus less on “our stuff” and start giving a little more love suddenly life takes on a totally new appearance and has a new flavour. There is no “them” and “us” anymore. We are all one.
"Patience"
~~~

God grant me the serenity…
To accept the things I cannot change…
Courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference…
Living one day at a time,
Accepting hardships as the
pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this world as it is,
not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make
all things right
If I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably
happy in this life,
And supremely happy with Him,
forever in the next.

Reinhold Neibuhr, 1926

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows.
