Shameless Plug
So... I'm at work and my boss approaches me for a "clicker" as he calls it. I proudly hand him the following item just freshly ordered and never been put to use. My boss was scheduled to speak to our new hires at the New Hire Orientation as usual, across the hallway in the training lab for our nurses. I had gone on-line and purchased the following items for each of our Presentation room/Board room and Training room. Well, he takes the item out of it's little carrying case and states "How cute... you are so good". I go about my work and he comes back and informs me that the unit is not working. I jokingly asked him, "What did you do to it?" his response was a smart ass one of course, but innocent enough... "I knew you would say that." Apparently he couldn't get it to work so he explained to the new staff that "Due to Technological difficulties he would have to advance his slides manually" The boss goes back to his orientation meeting.
I forged on to find out why the "clicker" is not working. I get another unit out and break open the packaging, connect the usb stick to my computer, bring up a power point slide on my system and proceed to trouble-shoot. After a few minutes of clicking buttons left and right, I realized that my boss had never removed the safety strip from the battery, innocent over look on his part, anyone would think that it was ready to go. I removed it and continued to test the unit. I experienced some glitches and skipping on the unit and couldn't figure out what was going on. A co-worker had used one at a conference he had to tape and he bragged about the quality of the unit and that I had made a good choice on the purchase. So what the heck was going on....? Well, a few minutes pass and my boss comes back to my cubicle and asked me "What are you doing? My presentation slides are skipping all over the place". He obviously was in good humor about the situation and all I could do was laugh hysterically and apologize for the inconvenience during his presentation. Who would have thought that the range on this thing would go through walls and closed doors??? I know I didn't. Thank God it wasn't the CEO of the company!! That was all I could think of on top of the laughter! I followed him to the orientation, he introduced me and I apologized to the new staff. What a way to be introduced and what a way to make an impression to staff for the technology department.
So here is the unit... something to keep in mind if you have the need for this type of technology! Maybe next time I'm ordering items such as this, I'll pay closer attention to the following information before troubleshooting...
