My problems seem so minimal at this point when I think back to seeing so many cars under water as seen in the picture above. I recieved a call from my daughter at 11:05 am: "Oh My God! Oh My God! Mom!!! Oh My God!!!" It took all I could to just attempt all odds to reach through the phone and get her to stop and take a breath... "It's raining in your bedroom!!!" I immediately got off the phone, called the management of the apartments and requested maintenance to check out the damages and made my way home.

I live on the 3rd floor of our apartment building, and as I finally walked in to the bedroom I notice the entire cieling of the bedroom, leaking. My daughter was right... it was raining throughout the bedroom. Collecting my thoughts, we moved the bed (which was wet by this point) and the dresser drawers (which were drenched, soaked and warped at one spot from the rain) to one side of the bedroom until we could assess the damages and maintenance could figure out what they needed to do. Needless to say, maintenance could not find a problem on the roof, they moved my complete bed to the living room (so I have an efficiency apartment right now) with two grown children visiting. I am very blessed in all of this. I have caring people offering me and the kids a place to stay. Family in San Diego calling to check on us and offering assistance if needed.

Meanwhile on the South Side of Houston, my neice and her husband were up at 4 am tackling the water that was making it's way in to their house, the picture below is of her in her backyard. She must have been dillusional, she is smiling even after getting water out of their house. She has her health, after fighting Von Hippel Lindau Disease, she has so much to smile about... As she posted on her site, might as well just take it all with a smile, she still has her family and her health.

I am blessed!

May God be with all the families that have been affected by the floods!
