Can things get any more interesting around here??? I guess so…
Can I claim ADHD???? Oh wait! I think I do have it and my kids do too, but I always raised them with the thought that their disability wasn’t to be used as an excuse for their actions, be it in school or day to day living.
In fact, my oldest might have had more reason to try and blame the disability on a lot of what was going on in his life through elementary and Intermediate school years, especially since he was prescribed Ritalin at 60 SR a day! I found out much later by a second Dr. that he never heard of a child being prescribed such a high dosage. I also found out later through my son’s journal that he hated his life because of the disability and the medication. The high dosage of Ritalin had him walking around like a zombie…no energy, no interest to do anything; he felt he didn’t have a normal childhood or better yet “teen years”. We finally took him off of it and worked with him one on one. Even now, he’s mentioned how he still feels like he needs to be put back on it and he’s 25 now. He’d doing good for himself these days. He doesn’t make excuses because of it; he’s learned to work around it!
When life throws out those curve balls; we just have to keep swinging!
