Gun Toting Cat Influences and Street Smarts
Ok… the store clerk gave me a weird look as I checked out with a few foofoo necessities for the apartment, my Easter Decorating/Craft Magazine and my Gun Porn magazines. Although she didn’t question it, she did give me a “questionable” look. Aside from the gun porn magazines, I have even found myself purchasing a “wife beater” shirt and “boy shorts” (all of which are “Haynes” Her Way) to match as I would hate to have Mr. Porta’s Cat staring at the brush fire for too long…I can think of better things he could be staring at, hence the girlie “wife beater” and “boy shorts”… Do you see a strategy being implemented here? I do…
This blog has never been directed towards the gun enthusiast, I started this blog with the question in mind from the beginning of how I would direct it and it has mostly fallen in the line of day to day life, relationships, self existence, family, friends and such. My life is now including guns…great huh? Although I won’t be posting much on guns, there might be a few postings here and there of my new experiences as they arise. With that being said…
For those gun enthusiasts… As I wait for all of my paperwork to be received and processed to carry a concealed handgun, I figured why not get myself informed and enlightened with the ins and outs of guns and the gun world…(hence the gun porn). I’m learning. I ran across this article in one of the magazines and thought I should add to my most honorable teachers’ advice on street smarts…
I’ve ran across a few incidents where I’ve been forced to be aware of my surroundings and with the thought of carrying a concealed weapon, I can only educate myself more and more on the counter-measures against muggers, rapists and thieves...
The article (Predators and Their Prey – Proven counter-measures against muggers!) lists the following:
On What To Look For it states that our own senses – especially that vital “sixth sense” – is the best weapon in the streets today. We should watch for things and people that look out of place. Be aware of people who get too close to you, who actually “get in your face”. They may bump into you, say things to see if you are listening, move up to you in a crowd and run their hands over your pockets while looking for the telltale bulge of a wallet or coin purse. This shows that they have no respect for your personal space and are testing your hearing and awareness.
They may ask for the time, or directions (as such in my case recently). They may even ask to use the phone or bathroom in your home or apartment. However, what they’re really doing is testing your ability to fight off that intrusion. If you agree to or comply with their actions or requests, they know you will be an easy mark. If a total stranger invades your privacy without warning and for no apparent reason, beware, because the next step can be much more drastic.
As I mentioned, I am becoming more aware of my surroundings and with “all” who come close to my personal space these days and these skills should and need to improve for when the day comes that I join those of you who carry. Being a single woman now, leaves me to think of number one, me…especially when I don’t have my guardian angel (Porta’s Cat) with me. I won’t be looking to be a Ms. Chuck Norris and I’d like to add that, I may be a small woman that could be thrown across a room very easily, but I can guarantee that I will do what it takes to take care of myself if the need arises. I’m not trying to come across as some “Bad Ass Mexican” woman but… if the actions call for some sort of counter-measure, it will be brought on with all due respect. I have someone very dear to me (PC) that has the patience to teach and enlighten me when it comes to my new world.
well, off to do a bit of work…
